Mitch Miller > "The climb from Baker to Kelso is 21 miles. With the pain of a strained Achilles, this was no fun. I wanted to scream out loud, and was cursing myself for allowing this injury to happen. I retaped my ankle tighter, took 2 more Advil (I already took 6 the first day for knee pain). Day 2 would see about another 8 pills for the pain, but they did nothing for the pain in my Achilles, or perhaps it got worse, but with the numbing effect of pain killers it felt the same or even worse. This was a grueling climb for me. I thought about my choices well: quiting for my own well being or facing a possible torn Achilles. I chose to go on."

Mitch Miller > "Jubilee Pass would have been better to climb at night, but it wasn't bad. Sun came out just before begining the climb of Jubilee and Salsberry Pass. I passed BushBuck (a young, 56 year old from Canada) on Salsberry Pass."

Bushbuck's crew stated they were from northern Alberta and had so looked forward to seeing Death Valley for the first time. One problem; it was dark.
